Pitreavie Gift 2014 CANCELLED

It is with deep regret that the Directors of the Pitreavie Gift have made a decision to cancel the event for 2014. The entries received to date are not sufficient enough to run the same successful meetings we did in our first two years and we did not want to run a meeting which fell below the high standard that we had set.   Total entries received to date were only 68 for the adults and 59 for youths over all nine events. Unfortunately, these figures do not justify organising a meeting of the quality that the Gift deserves to be…

A Timely Reminder...

Runners are reminded that the closing date for entries for the 3rd Pitreavie Gift is Sunday 1st December 2013 (OK we'll take your entry if it arrives on the Monday!!) and that in order to repeat the successes of the first two years it is vital that we have a spectacular event to display. There is nothing worse than seeing poorly filled heats in sprints or distance races with only a handful of entrants. Remember, the ethos of Pitreavie Gift is that it is run with athletes in mind and it is the athlete who always comes first…

Deadline for Entries Approaches....

Just a little polite reminder that the closing date for entries for the 3rd Pitreavie Gift meeting is Sunday 1st December 2013. Entries with appropriate fees and a stamped addressed envelope must be with Event handicapper Don Campbell by then to ensure entry in the races and to allow for the production of the race card and material for the draw. It only takes a few minutes and a second class stamp so don't miss out, pop that form in the post tomorrow. 06.11.2013.

Entry Form 2014

Go to the Events page for the list of events for the third Pitreavie Gift. It is also the entry form so please just print that off and then send it off with your entry fee and SAE to the handicapper at the address shown. Remember entries close on 1st December 2013, so don't delay. 19.08.2013

New Chairman Elected

At the recent meeting of the Directors of the Pitreavie Gift, following upon the decision that the Chairman should be elected annually on a rotating basis, we are delighted to announce that Kirkcaldy based runner Graeme Lister has been elected as the Chairman for the third running of the Gift. A former holder of the New Year Sprint title, Graeme brings to the board a wealth of knowledge and experience of athletics as seen from the perspective of the competitor and reinforces the ethos of the Gift which is a place "where the athlete comes first"…

Date for 2014 Gift Announced

The third running of the Pitreavie Gift will take place on Sunday 26th January 2014 with a 10am start as before. It is intended to improve the programme of events yet further and more details will appear shortly.  Entry forms will be available for the start of the Borders Athletics season on June 1st and will be downloadable from this site and also picked up in hard copy form at every such meeting. Entries will close on December 1st 2013.  The draw for the heats of the 2014 Gift will take place on Monday 13th January 2014 and follow a similar format to that which has gone before…

Louden lifts the Gift

Greg Louden from Dalkeith has taken the spoils in the second running of the Pitreavie Gift. The 20 year old runner from Dalkeith in Midlothian ran from a mark of 6 metres and with just metres to go caught last year's winner Darrin Scott (8.5m) ensuring him the £1000 first prize, the Ricky Dunbar sash and the Wilma Taylor Memorial Sword in a time of 10.43 seconds.  Impressive in his heat, Louden was for many of the onlookers one of the early favourites. Scott - whose heat time was one of the fastest - looked in mean form as he cruised up the track and was in similarly fine form in his cross tie…

Gift Goes Ahead

After an early morning inspection today - OK I had a  look and swept the track!! - the 2nd Pitreavie Gift is all set to go ahead tomorrow as originally scheduled. An easterly wind is forecast so warm clothing is certainly recommended but if the quality of the racing is anything like it was in January 2012 we should be in for a cracker. See you all tomorrow, bright and early! 23.03.2013.

Weather Latest!!!

Who would have thought it? The second half of March and it is snowing! Although the forecast will not have any one running for the sun cream, it is understood that  the current wintry conditions will have passed by the weekend although some rain may be expected, even on Sunday.  So, there are currently NO plans to cancel the Pitgreavie Gift and the meeting is scheduled to go ahead as planned. Please note that registration for the morning events (Gift and 800m adults and Youths 90m and 800m) will open from around 08…

Donations from Down Under

The Directors of the Pitreavie Gift are delighted to announce that in addition to the Victor's Sash donated last year - and again in 2013 -  by 1963 New Year Sprint winner, Ricky Dunbar, who now lives in Victoria, Australia, all of the adult events for 2013 will also now receive a similar award. Another fellow Scot now domiciled in the Antipodes, John Hilditch, has donated the sash for the Veterans' 90 metres and legendary trainer John Henry  has put up the the sash for the 200 metres…
